A long, long time ago in a kampong, there was a pond with plenty of fish.
But the pond soon begins to dry up, and a watchful and greedy crane has an idea: He fools the fish into thinking that he will bring them to a large, sparkling lake. In the meantime, a crab who has been watching the crane has plans of his own…

Reviews:
"A children’s book by the former president of Singapore? I’m in. Should adults read children’s books? If you don’t mind me saying, I think we should. Because it’s plain fun. With the writer’s sensual words paired up with the illustrator’s refreshing drawings, The Crane and the Crab is a book filled with life lessons. SR Nathan should be applauded. His words carries you through the end.
Anngee Neo’s illustrations are a breath of fresh air. Every kid needs to read this. Personally I think The Crane and the Crab is a great bedtime story. This children’s book is packed with colourful characters. The sly crane, the gullible fishes and my personal favourite, the charismatic hero crab. A book that lives up to every promise, I’m saving this for my future kid."
